Well its February! So you know what that means........ only that the Quirky Queen Of Covers Curating is back with another Badass Compilation to nourish your ears.

I went overboard. I got so excited that I made 2(!) playlists.

I can hardly stand it. Everything from David bowie covering the Pixies. Prince covering Joni Mitchell. Peter Gabriel and Hot Chip covering Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend Covering Fleetwood Mac. Someone covers the Strokes. The Strokes Cover the Ramones. Nada Surf resurfaces with his special touch on Depeche Mode. AND someone even had the GUMPTION to attempt to tackle the noise heavy out-of-body experience that is Idioteque by Radiohead.

I've been snooping around my music and I realize there are some of my favorite songs that I've neglected. I feel bad because honestly I usually have a leg up on the hottest artist's and new singles. Thanks to LOTS of extra time and musical OBSESSION that is what you usually get from Delicious Ear Snacks.

This month features
Best coast, Rah Rah, Lissie, an early collaboration of H2O (that punk band we all forgot) and Dropkick Murphys. Also some prime singles from more known artists.

Also for your listening pleasure I added some cover tracks, that's just a personal favorite I cannot resist.

A lot of them are duplicates... and before you say anything, No I don't know how I ended up with 3 versions of the Batman & Robin soundtrack, Or how I thought that I needed the entire discography of Kansas.

EARSNACKS REVIEW: Jukebox The Ghost

When I was handed this CD, based on name alone, I had my judgments. I thought "Oh another weird named mediocre indie-rock trio". I was totally wrong. These guys really know what they are doing. A trio of songs about the apocalypse, unforgettable and wildly infectious choruses, MAN was I wrong.

Let Live & Let Ghost is solid. Whether it is broad Queen-like bridges like in "Under My Skin" Or Gershwin piano explorations like in "Victoria" it only goes to show that these guys can put a really good song together. I took the opportunity to not just listen to the entire CD but to actually read all the lyrics. I was expecting their Pop-ey jangle and rhyme to be hollow, but instead I found songs like "Beady Eyes On The Horizon" to be surprisingly profound. So who is this band? It is three students Ben Thornewill, Tommy Siegel, and Jesse Kristin who met at George Washington University.They began to play under the name SUNDAY MAIL. After taking some time off to travel they came back reconvened and became Jukebox The Ghost. The result being achingly melodic songs, punchy guitar riffs and electric ambiance that reaches out of the speaker to touch you like the first time you heared "Underground" By Ben Folds Five.

So One of my favorite bands is coming to Birmingham. Hailing from Brooklyn these crazy cats make rolling guitar rock at both fast and slow paces. its the sound of summer. Its the sound you fell in love with in Jr. High. Its the sound of your best friends band as they practice in your neighbors garage. And they are coming this Monday!

"It makes you feel. It makes you believe. And makes you forget where it came from, makes you happy that someone was able to carry the torch without snuffing it out. And that they did. Even if they are [insert long drawn-out sigh here] from Brooklyn.

So how did they do it? Good question. Might have something to do with the way their music feels so effortless and confident, gritty and graceful. You can tell they weren't trying too hard. They weren't looking to replicate a sound or an attitude. They just wanted to make the music they loved. Also it seems they were willing to lend parts of their collective self to the music and came out with something original because of that. What they offer is a cross between tame and fired-up, melodic and heavy, calm and snotty. What they offer is an excellent continuation of punk and indie rock's legacy. And if you're a fan of either, you'll dig this."

Well Lawrence the Lappy my trusty friend... and workhorse is on his last leg. So I am currently Writing to you from my father's laptop on a desk and not from the comforts of my memory-foam mattress.

Alright kids. I'm sorry its so late. But I've been busy, and when wasn't busy I was deathly ill.

But enough about me!!!!! How about some new music? Yeah that's what I thought

1. Now this is one I pulled out of the vault! It's an awesome limited release single that was released right around the time that both Spacehog and The Lemonheads broke up. So what else is there for out of work lead singers to do?

2. Ok so shoot me. This song has been blowing up the charts. But seriously.... I can't stop playing it.
No Sex For Ben-- The Rapture

3. This is another one of those Norwegian imports. And If you have ever been drunk then this is your song.
I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked-- Ida Maria

4. This group The Hussy's is a merging of 2 bands actually. UK pop bands The Supernaturals and The Starlets. This song is what I feel like everyday now everyone is home from college.

5. You have to see this band LIVE to really get a feel for their hardcore fans, stage antics and funny lyrics.
Britney's Tears-- The Steeples

6. The Saps have been on the HOT NEW LIST since 1999. They really didn't get their act together until last year with the release of C'mon Already-Start a FIRE!

7. Here is an unreleased tack from my favorite flash-in-the pan indierock band. I'm sad to say they are no longer together. :(

HEY For those who dont know. I have jsut moved from a wildly popular myspace music page. Every month I post a Playlist that is free to download. Music is my ABSOLUTE life so if you have any questions comments or concerns I want to hear. Also If you have a hot new band you want me to know about for all means TELL ME!

This month has a very distinct feel to it. its kindof a homeade electronica with a twist of frolicking rowdy rockers.
Its weird how the playlist manifests itself each month. because i have been listening to mostly old school punk which is for the most part completly unreflected here.
But i collected some really great tracks this month so ENJOY!

My favorite New York duo put out their sophmore LP last month.. its definately worth a listen or two
Thats What Counts-- We Are Scientists

I really didnt expect much from this band when their first single made a chorus of "it put the lotion on its skin" but this infectious beat is the song of the street. at least where Grand Theft Auto IV is concerned

Indie New Wave made with casio's and beat machines on macs. still good though

this band says that they are a Beach Boys-gone-wrong-meets-Deerhoof sound. I have no idea how one comes up with that... but lets just go with that.
The Woods-- Cartridge

Its a 7 piece indiepop band from the UK. Their name translates to something like "the Peasants"
Broken Hearts Sound Like Breakbeats-- Los Campesinos!

no even going to try... this is what this band describes themselves as "an arcade machine thrown into a lake, A ZX Spectrum in a prison shower block (That soap on the floor...? it's a trap)" CrazyGOOD. Im not going to get my hopes up but these guys could really be the ones to replace Death From Above 1979

This song is really a perfect example of this tears 60's pop revival. peppered in with a mark mothersborough like harmonies

this is a brooklyn based synth-pop group. making their way through the club scene there since 2002. I personally think that Oracular Spectacular that came out last october is their best stuff.
Electric Feel- MGMT

Now i have actually heard that this bands live shows are the most fun you can have with your clothes on. If the energy is anything like their studio recordings i believe it!
Death To The Indie Disco-- Blah Blah Blah

Now Frank Black has returned the ever Black Francis to release his latest album sven fingers... its really all great. not that i think that anything he puts out is anything less than gold.

This Chi-Town band has Infectious beats and pounding chorus-es.
Medicine Man-- the Hush Sound

Now if you lived anytime during the 90's you KNOW this song. And i have to say i couldn't think of a better band to cover it than the new faces of punk for the new age
Song 2-- My Chemical Romance

This is a classic Punk song. It should be a staple in anyone's collection. its lightning quick bass. Its not angst its not anger. Its PUNK
Sound Of The Suburbs-- The Members

I couldn't resist making this the last song. Its broad symphonic bacground and his simple voice delivering profound lyrics is much like Leonard Cohen.
And I Remember Every Kiss-- Jens Lekman

Well the days are longer, The grills are out and summer is upon us!! So given the mood i am in I have Comprised the playlist to be your starter Kit for SUMMER!

but before i begin all my indie fans i musy say i was fairly dissapointed by the much hyped Debut From Zooey Deshanel and M Ward also known as She & Him.
BUT i am much awaiting the full length Debut from My new Favorite band CHESTER FRENCH. If you dont ALREADY know these cats... you are soooo behind the times. so check them out at their myspace page!
