Oxford Collapse

So One of my favorite bands is coming to Birmingham. Hailing from Brooklyn these crazy cats make rolling guitar rock at both fast and slow paces. its the sound of summer. Its the sound you fell in love with in Jr. High. Its the sound of your best friends band as they practice in your neighbors garage. And they are coming this Monday!

"It makes you feel. It makes you believe. And makes you forget where it came from, makes you happy that someone was able to carry the torch without snuffing it out. And that they did. Even if they are [insert long drawn-out sigh here] from Brooklyn.

So how did they do it? Good question. Might have something to do with the way their music feels so effortless and confident, gritty and graceful. You can tell they weren't trying too hard. They weren't looking to replicate a sound or an attitude. They just wanted to make the music they loved. Also it seems they were willing to lend parts of their collective self to the music and came out with something original because of that. What they offer is a cross between tame and fired-up, melodic and heavy, calm and snotty. What they offer is an excellent continuation of punk and indie rock's legacy. And if you're a fan of either, you'll dig this."

thats a quote from Numo magazines

IndieRock Playlist: August 2008

Well Lawrence the Lappy my trusty friend... and workhorse is on his last leg. So I am currently Writing to you from my father's laptop on a desk and not from the comforts of my memory-foam mattress.
But thank goodness for the benefits of Lastfm.com because if it wasn't for them I would have no idea what songs i put on this months playlist! All hail those crazy kids from East London who made this all possible for you!!

Ok so here is a secret: Sometimes I just "phone in" this blog. I KNOW i know i should really do more work for you guys because i LOVE my readers! But the truth is sometimes I just take old mix Cd's or playlists and i-Tunes and post that instead of making a really badass playlist i know i could make. so why am I telling you this? because that makes what I am about to say truthful, and all the more important.

THIS MONTH'S PLAYLIST IS BADASSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like a Kick to the back of the knees!
for real............ SO no more waiting

1. So we can all remember when Outcast came out with their first hit. Impressed with the harmonies of Andre 3000 and the outlandish production of Big Boi. Well i just got that tingly feeling again. Fresh and new with
Janelle Monáe she is fantastic, outlandish and the best new thing.
Violet Stars Happy Hunting! (feat the Skunks)-
-Janelle Monáe

2. OMG do you know how many drummers this band has? 2! Hailing from NYC the only thing better than listening to their new CD Fort Nightly, is being able to pump your fist in the air watching them perform riot inducing choruses like the one on this track
The Plot-- White Rabbits

3. I know that Pop Levi is a little sugary but come on...its august. Its time to start storing up fat for the winter. Plus this is a little synth/rockabilly gem.
Dita Dimone--Pop Levi

4. If you can think back to 2003 you might remember DISMEMBERMENT PLAN, or PROMISE RING. (now i do not remember promise ring... but lets pretend i do) well they both broke up around the same time. and THANK GOODNESS because we might not have these guys. Now for the die-hard indies reading this.. i know this isn't their newest but it is my fav)
For Science Fiction-- Maritime

5. Ok you don't have to download this one. but then you are just being a snob. Because The first time i heared this song I played it 7 times in a row. I DARE YOU TO NOT DANCE TO THIS SONG.
So What-- P!nk

6. Out of the vaults cometh this oldie. We all know my absolute OBSESSION with Office. But before their first label dumped them like a stale pretzel leaving them to regroup and re-record. This comes off their first album Q & A. a much Rawer version than the Night At The Ritz version.
Had a Visit--Office

7. Some of you know that after their critically acclaimed EP Ra Ra Riot their drummer died June 2007. Thusly the band mourned the loss of their friend and fellow musician on their newest release The Rhumb Line. a little sad but quite stunning.
Ghost Under Rocks-- Ra Ra Riot

8. Well my fav Jacksonville band has finally come up with a FULL LENGTH album that kicks some absurdest dance rock ass.
Partie Tramautic- Black Kids

9. how does one describe White Denim? well I'll let them do it
"punk-infused, psychedelic blues-rock" so there
Sitting--White Denim

10. What do you get Philly Rock electro/ska + One of this generation's most recognisable voices/ guitar players + One of the Worlds HOTTEST Hip-Hop Producers? This song that's what
My Drive Thru--Santogold, Julian Casablancas and Pharell Williams

11. These genre defying boys sprung from the ashes of indie darlings The Unicorns.
J'aime Vous Voir Quitter-- The Islands

12. If you didn't like her already from last month you will love her even more this month.
Oh My God--Ida Maria

13. Kevin Barnes needs no introduction but his new single sounds like some sort of modern studio 54 anthem. And I mean that in a VERY good way
Id Engager-- Of Montreal

14. I have no Idea what this song means. I have read many translations but none of them make sense. But What can you expect from a French Punk song from the 70's? But this is one infection you want to catch! Oh and before you get all smartass on me. the Queen of classic PUNK ( that being me) DID notice the distinct resemblance to jet boy, jet girl.
Ça Plane Pour Moi- Plastic Bertrand

15. I don't Know who Vic Reeves is but apparently Jim Noir does. And in homage to the psych pop of the Beach Boys with a little synth pop ELO and some modern BDB references you get this.
Happy Day Today-- Jim Noir

I'm thinking of changing the format and making the posts more frequent but shorter....

comment and let me know what you think.
